What To Expect

Let us briefly describe some of the things you will experience.

Courtesy And Kindness

Not only do we welcome visitors, but we appreciate them greatly. Such people who show an interest in spiritual things encourage us. You won't find any special pews for prominent visitors while the back row remains reserved for all others (James 2:1-9). We try to treat all people with respect and kindness. We won't ask you to participate in anything that might draw attention or embarrass you. You are welcome to simply observe if you wish.

Order And Reverence

Worship will be spirited and lively, but not wild and out of control. The Lord expects us to do all things "decently and in order." (1 Corinthians 14:40). We invite you to ask questions about anything you observe. If we cannot show you from the Bible why we do such things, we ask you to simply ignore us.

God's word must be the final rule for our spiritual conduct. If we do not have a "thus saith the Lord" for everything we do, then we should not do it! We actually encourage you to test everything you see and hear while visiting, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God..." (1 John 4:1) .

Our Manner Of Worship

If you are present on the Lord's Day--Sunday-- you will observe all members participating in certain acts of worship outlined in the New Testament. Everyone will lift up their voices to sing praises to God "speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." (Ephesians 5:19).

You will observe one man leading the congregation quietly and reverently in prayer "Therefore I desire that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." (1 Timothy 2:1-8). Every Sunday morning brothers and sisters in Christ will observe the Lord's Supper "in remembrance of Me." (Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29).

We will also give "as we may prosper" that the Lord's work can continue in this area (1 Corinthians 16:1-2) We do not ask donations from those visiting with us, neither will you see rummage sales, bake sales, yard sales, or bingo to raise money. The Lord's work is done with the free-will offerings of His children (2 Corinthians 9:6-9). You will also hear the gospel of Jesus Christ proclaimed "For I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation." (Romans 1:16). We even have Bible classes for all ages to teach both children and adults the word of God.

Additionally

If you are not familiar with the church of Christ, some things we do may surprise you. For instance, you will see no piano or organ, no choir or chorus, no flowing robes or men held in holy reverence, and no collection other than on Sunday. The reason is simple and sensible all those things are innovations and additions from men "and in vain they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." (Matthew 15:9). We want you to feel comfortable among us... but at the same time, if you have not yet been reconciled to God through Christ, we want you to feel uncomfortable and consider your need of salvation (2 Corinthians 5:20).
